The Internet is full of “review sites” that mostly allow people to say what ever they want and usually find pleasure in only posting the bad reviews. Yelp is the biggest offender because they only like negative reviews they also filter all the good reviews. Who would have thought it? A stellar reception facility tucked away at one end of a commercial building in Manassas??? For those who doubt the location, think ample, free parking. And, to be perfectly frank, were you planning to hold your reception in the parking lot? Probably not. It is what is INSIDE that counts! What is inside the Continental Event Center is plush carpeting, crystal chandeliers, elegant furniture and your choice of sizes in ballrooms. Once you get past the posh surroundings, the fantastic bridal suite, the opulent restrooms, you run right into Jim Hester and it is Jim who makes the Continental Event Center what it is — your go to place for any sort of social gathering, be it personal or business. We had the best of good luck in meeting Jim at a wedding vendor open house he hosted at the Continental. Watch his schedule for these — we signed up the majority of our wedding vendors (winners, all!) in one pleasant, stress free afternoon. Jim worked with us to make our daughter’s dream wedding a reality. He would take an idea we did not even know we had and spin it into something magical. Our reception was a blend of fun, fantasy and color, all pulled together by Jim. While we brought in a great deal of the decor, Jim (and his wonderful assistant, Maddie!) carefully unwrapped and positioned everything just so. The resulting cocktail and reception spaces went over and beyond anything in our wildest imaginations! There were even surprises in lighting and a special slide show that were a special gift to us! If you wish (and I do not know why you would think any other way) Jim also provides DJ services. Everyone had an amazing time with Jim leading the festivities! We danced, we sang, we played games. People were laughing all night long and are still remarking on the wonderful time they had weeks later. On the flip side, he did a remarkable job orchestrating the more significant dances; that of the couple’s first dance, Bride and Dad, Groom and Mom. There was not a dry eye in the house for those. Our only complaint would be that we were all having so much fun, the evening flew by and was over before we knew it. Our only wish for you is that you make the decision to hold your own event at the Continental Event Center. Let Jim Hester make your special time that much more…

I had my wedding at Continental back in November. A HUGE thank you goes out to Jim Hester and his staff. I was a nervous wreck leading up to the wedding. I met with Jim about a month before my wedding and he had a schedule of how everything would go; I was so relieved! My wedding day was absolutely amazing!!!!! It couldn’t have gone more perfect! It was really cool Jim let us come in the day before my wedding and set up all my decorations and centerpieces; his staff even helped! Then we were allowed two hours before my wedding to set up last minutes things and get ready in a beautiful suite, with plenty of mirror room! Thanks to Jim and his staff, they had everything covered. The DJ was awesome too! Throughout the planning process, I would stop by Continental to just look around and see what decorations I needed/wanted and Jim would suggest really good ideas!! It was so nice having his professional opinion!! Also, the caterer (Helga’s Catering in McLean) Jim had referred us to was AWESOME! I was getting compliments all night and still to this day people I run into say how much fun they had and how great the food was! Two guests at my wedding are in the mist of planning their wedding and they said, “We are using this place!!!” I would be honored to be a guest at Continental! Thank you so much Jim for making my day magical!

I totally disagree with the reviewer who gave such a bad review of the Continental Events Center and its owner. We couldn’t have had a more opposite treatment or service than that reported by this woman. I checked her other reviews, and apparently she’s never completely satisfied with anyplace she reviews.
Jim Hester went out of his way for us to keep things at a reasonable price for the caterer and other services. The facility is luxurous and beautifully appointed.

Continental Event Center was chosen for my daughter’s wedding reception, July 2012. Jim Hester, owner and on site manager, has designed a beautiful facility and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the planning process. Through the planning he was always available for questions and guidance. If things appeared to be veering off course, he politely expressed concern. He took a personal interest in the planning of a once in a lifetime event. He even offered help finding a babysitter the night of the wedding because of an unexpected turn of events! The results were stunning! The set up of the facility was flawless. Using one of Jim’s preferred caterers for the food was an excellent choice and friends are still commenting favorably! The party atmosphere of the reception was exactly what we wanted. As the DJ, Jim kept it moving, transitioning from the wedding events (first dances, bouquet & garter tossing) to the dancing and fun without missing a beat. Many times throughout the evening I thought the song playing was a recording until I saw Jim with a microphone in his hand moving amongst the guests on the floor. The combination of a beautiful facility and Jim’s skills as a coordinator and DJ make Continental Event Center a perfect setting for the perfect wedding reception.

We had our wedding reception at the Continental Event Center July 2012 and we were so happy to have made the right venue choice. Jim was very accommodating with our requests and helped us immensely when we had to move our wedding dates a few times. During the planning process he walked through the set up with us to let us know what would go well with the number of guests we had and also the food set up was great!The reception was held in the front ballroom, very intimate and perfect. Our decorators were able to make everything happen in the time allotted and all of the staff was very professional. There was a private bridal room where my husband and I could refresh before we entered for the reception and there was champagne and appetizers ready for us as well. It was the simple details to make sure we were comfortable that really stood out for us.
For the music, Jim was the DJ and sang along to a few of the songs which was just a real treat. We had given him a list of songs we wanted to have played and he made sure they were in the mix throughout the night. Any requests that were made by guests, he was sure to play them and there were always people dancing on the dance floor.
We can’t thank Jim enough for the making our day so special. Thank you, thank you! Best kept secret in town!
